Zermatt to Lauterbrunnen Valley

Had the Riffelalp not been booked for the night, we probably would have stayed, since the resort is so wonderful. As it turns out, you only need a few days in Zermatt to see everything from a cablecar. If you want to hike or do other outdoor activities, then 3-4 days is probably better. We took the regional train to Brig, then to Interlaken, and finally Berner Oberland Bahn (BOB) to Lauterbrunnen. There we put our luggage into the lockers at the train station (5 CHP coin) and ventured out with our day-packs. Since the new aerial tramway and connecting train, both operated by the Bergbahn Lauterbrunnen-Murren (BLM) to Murren were not operating, we hiked the flat valley floor via the Trummelbach Falls to Stechelberg and then the Luftseilbahn Stechelberg-Murren-Schilthorn (LSMS) to Murren.

The Matterhorn

After a large breakfast from the wonderful buffet at the Riffelalp, we checked out and took the cogwheel down to Zermatt to board our train to Lauterbrunnen.

Dinner

Was another busy day of traveling, with alot of ground covered, including one mountain peak (Schilthorn). Most of the hotels in Wengen were empty - even though on Expedia they were listed as not available. Best way to approach finding lodging is to do some research in advance, then make a deal with the hotel when you get there - especially in the off-season.
