Departure Day

I'm not sure why, but I though we had to schedule departures in the morning, which is when I did. It turns out that you could depart in the afternoon. In any case, we left mid-morning for our commuter flight back to Papeete, Tahiti. We were greeted at the airport and taken to the Intercontinental Beachcomber for a day room, they went to the airport later on in the evening. A day room is always a good idea if your flight departs more than 3 hours from the time you're at the airport. There's not much to do at the airport in Tahiti - unless you have a business or first class booking, you can use the VIP lounge.

Departure

Departing Yacht

Since the yacht is all-inclusive, your room bill should be pretty low. With the exception of optional tours or premium liquors or champagne. My total room bill was about $150 (that was for two glasses of champagne). In addition, I left a 10 percent tip for the crew fund.

Yacht Tender

Shuttle to Airport

After all the goodbyes are said, your luggage is loaded onto the tender, and you're whisked ashore to the airport (on a motu).

Bora Bora to Papeete

Commuter to Tahiti

The hour long flight to Papeete was overcast and full of intermitant showers. After we arrived, we were taken to the Intercontinental for a day room. It's alot easier to relax in a resort than the airport.

Hotel Intercontinental

It was nice to relax and unwind at the hotel. The main airport is hot, crowded and can be very uncomfortable.

Airport Lounge

Because we were in Business Class, we had access to the nice airport lounge.

Departure Day

It was a full day of traveling, and after a wonderful cruise, you just want to get home. Some of the passengers elected to stay for a post-cruise, which I highly do not recommend. The issue here is service. On the yacht, you are pampered beyond belief. It is not a service that can be duplicated on land at a resort. For this reason, I always recommend a resort for your pre-cruise to get acclimated. Typically, you'll be spending more on your cruise than a resort, so be well rested for the most expensive part of your trip.
