USVI National Park

We departed St. Thomas early Monday morning for the 13 mile journey to St. John. We anchored out, off the western shore.

Tender In

Port

We checked out some helmets and a lock from reception, then had two folding bikes prepared for us to take to shore.

St. Johns

View of Bay

The tender ride in was a rolly 15 minutes. We got on the bikes and started off our venture into the hilly St. Johns National park, to the left of the port. The hills are quite large, and we ended up walking most of the way. The roads are quite narrow, so you have to be very careful and watch for traffic. The Virgin Islands are left-hand driving - just like the Brits.

Beach

After a 30 minute bike ride, we walked into the National Park and went swimming on the sugary white beach.

Back up the Trail

Biking

Instead of biking back up the long winding road, we opted to hike up the narrow, rocky path, carrying our bikes most of the way.

Lunch on the Ship

View From Balinese Sun tanning Beds

We took the tender back to the ship and had a nice lunch, al fresco on the upper dining deck. Lunch is served from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

After lunch we relaxed on the large Balinese tanning beds on the upper deck.

Banana Boat

Dinner

After signing some wavers, we went on a very wet banana boat ride off the marina at the back of the ship. In semi-calm waters, they'll drop the marina down for a variety of watersports, including Yamaha Wave Runners, water skiing, banana boat rides, sailing, windsurfing and kayaking.

Captain's Reception Party

Dinner

From 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Main Salon was the Captain's reception party, where the ship staff was introduced.

Dinner with the Chief Engineer

turndown Service

We had the Captain's dinner in the main dining room with the Chief Engineer, Kristian E. Bertling. Tonight was the lobster dinner night, starting with beef carpaccio, satay and ending with chreme broughlet or fresh pecan pie. Again, the best lobster I've had at sea. The food quality is outstanding.
