Disembarkation

The ship arrived sometime early morning into Miami (around 4:00am), and the process of clearing the ship did not finish until 8:30am, when passengers started departing. Colored tags were given to those with luggage, and would give you the order that your bags would be ready at the end of the gangplank. I was one of the last off the ship at around 10:15am, and it was a smooth and orderly process. Your keycard is swiped one last time (but you get to keep the card) and then the customs form is collected. If you have more than the allotted customs allowance, or have to declare items, you are instructed early in the morning to go to a room on the ship where the customs agents are located.

Departing the Ship
In a very classy move, the Captain of the ship greeted and thanked every passenger as they departed the ship. Once off the ship and in the cruise ship terminal, the customs agents allowed everyone to breeze on by.

Cab to airport
Within three minutes after leaving the terminal, I shared a cab with Lauren and Danielle to the airport, the total cab fare was $20. NCL charges $20 if you wish to take one of their prearranged buses to the airport. I have taken these busses before, and they're efficient, but you do have to wait. A cab gets you there faster, and if you're sharing a cab, a great deal cheaper.

Miami International Airport

Checking into First Class at Northwest was fast and efficient. What was really neat was after getting my ticket, having available a separate line for the security check. There was no waiting. For the economy class passengers, there was about a twenty minute wait.

Northwest From Miami to Detroit
We had a weather delay on the tarmac for about 20 minutes, then got airborne on the Northwest DC-9. Again, as on the way down, First Class was not as roomy. For lunch we were served a choice of chicken salad or a sandwich. It seems as though service is really being cut back. The flight attendant said he was being furloughed at the end of the month so even Northwest is undergoing some major problems.
